Xbox Live Rewards loyalty program goes live in the US and UK

Spend an embarrassing amount of your life immersed in the Xbox Live universe? It's cool -- we all do. But now, you'll actually have a better reason to ignore whoever's yelling at you to disconnect. Microsoft has just launched its Xbox Live Rewards loyalty program after testing it out last year, but for now it's only available to US and UK-based gamers. As our compadres over at Joystiq mention, it's a lot like Club Nintendo, but instead of getting gear, you'll be awarded Microsoft Points for doing things you'd already be doing anyway. Gamers can look for a ten point boost for renewing a one-month membership, a 400 point increase for buying / renewing a family plan or 100 points for activating Netflix -- and that's just the start. LastPass extension now available for Opera 11

LastPass has been providing secure, accessible-anywhere storage for your endless collection of Web logins for quite some time. The LastPass bookmarklet works in any modern browser, but it's not quite as functional as the add-ons for Firefox, Chrome and Safari. Now, users of Opera 11 can enjoy the full LastPass experience, too!

Head on over to the Opera extensions site and install LastPass (Opera 11 required, of course). The experience is pretty well identical to the Chrome extension, which isn't a surprise -- Opera 11 and Chrome (and Safari) extensions are more or less wrappers around Web code. It was likely a pretty easy undertaking to port LastPass for Chrome to Opera.

We've added LastPass to our collection of 10+ handy Opera 11 extensions -- it definitely deserves a spot on the list.

ASUS announces ultraportable U36 laptop (updated with specs)

ASUS is still holding back some of the details on this one, but what it has revealed about its new U36 ultraportable is certainly enough to get us interested. Weighing in at just over three pounds, the laptop is said to pack your choice of a Core i3 or i5 processors, along with NVIDIA Optimus graphics, and a four-cell battery that promises ten hours of battery life -- all of which comes wrapped in a 0.75-inch magnesium shell that's apparently available in your choice of black or silver. Unfortunately, all other details, including the screen size (though 13.3-inch seems likely), remain a bit of a mystery, as does the pricing and launch details.

Update: We've come across a couple of Taiwanese listings for the U36 spilling the full specs: 13.3-inch LED-backlit screen, Intel Core i5-460M CPU, NVIDIA GeForce 310M graphics with 1GB of memory, 2GB of system RAM, a 500GB 7200RPM hard disk, HDMI output, one USB 3.0 port, a 1.66kg weight, and Windows 7 Home Premium as the OS. Pricing is less reliable, but we've seen a top MSRP of NT$41,900 ($1,375), which has invariably been discounted by local retailers to saner levels. Let's just wait and see how things turn out when the U36 makes its way westward.
